Who Can Donate Blood?
Donating blood is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to save lives. A single donation can help up to three patients in need. Most healthy individuals are eligible to donate, but there are certain guidelines to ensure the safety of both the donor and the patient.

✅ General Eligibility Criteria
1. Age Requirement
Individuals 18 to 65 years old can safely donate blood.
2. Weight Requirement
Minimum weight required: 45–50 kg (varies slightly by state guidelines; 50 kg for apheresis donation).
3. Overall Health
Donor should feel healthy, active, and fit on the day of donation.
No fever, infection, or medical distress.
4. Hemoglobin Level
Minimum Hb:
12.5 g/dl for women
13.0 g/dl for men
5. Donation Interval
Whole Blood Donation: Once every 3 months for men; 4 months for women.
Platelet (Apheresis) Donation: Once every 2 weeks, up to 24 times a year.

You can donate blood if you have:
Mild hypertension (controlled with medication)
Mild diabetes (controlled without insulin)
Thyroid disorders (well-managed)
Completed antibiotics course and fully recovered
Past dengue, chikungunya, malaria (after specific deferral period, usually 3–6 months)
Tattoo, piercing, or dental work done 4–6 months ago
COVID-19 recovered after 14–28 days, depending on symptoms
⛔ Who Cannot Donate Blood? (Temporary or Permanent Deferral)
Temporarily Not Eligible
You should postpone donation if you have:
Fever, cold, cough, throat infection
Recent surgery or major dental work (within 6 months)
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or recent miscarriage
Alcohol consumption in the last 24 hours
Vaccination (gap varies from 14 to 30 days depending on vaccine)
Recent travel to malaria-prone areas
Menstruation with weakness or anaemia
Permanently Not Eligible
Individuals with the following conditions cannot donate:
HIV/AIDS
Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C
Uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension
Severe heart disease
Bleeding disorders
Cancer (varies based on treatment and remission stage)
High-risk lifestyle conditions as per medical guidelines
